Inter Milan are no longer interested in signing Erik Lamela, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com).

The Nerazzurri have been reportedly tracking the Argentinian for a while, but their interest is said to have cooled, with their focus being on signing teammate Mousa Dembele instead.

Our no.19 reportedly has three different Serie A clubs interested in signing him with Napoli and AC Milan also said to be in the mix.

Another Italian publication the Corriere Dello Sport reports we have put a €30million price tag on the Belgian international.

Lamela meanwhile was left out of Argentina’s World Cup squad. After a lengthy spell out with a serious hip injury which kept him sidelined until November, the 26-year-old was never likely to make Jorge Sampaoli’s final 23.

However, with his fitness problems now behind him, the attacking midfielder will be hoping to hit the ground running for us at the start of next season.

  • Needs much more productivity – goals and assists – need only look at Ericksen, Son and Alli to realise what is to be expected of him and resultant. I’d take him up on the contract extension of a season taking him to 2020, see what he does next season and then take it from there, either keep him or sell him – reckon the Italians will always be interested.

  • I think it is fair to say that Lamela has failed to live up to the sizeable fee that we paid for him, but he remains, when fit, a useful squad member. It is unlikely, despite press gossip to the contrary, that we would be able to recoup our investment so why sell him.

  • Frank … I totally agree with you. Even if some fans consider he can be improved on in terms of the starting eleven, he is perfect as a squad player. I think we must keep him …. if he wants to stay.

  • In 5 seasons lets be honest, over all he has been bang average. He had one decent season where it looked like he would kick on but never did.

I personally think we need to sell players like this, go out and sign 1-2 top players who will make a difference. Then instead of buying squad players like N’kou, Sissoko, Jansen and Llorente promote youth players.
