“In My Head, I Will Play For Spurs Next Season” – Fans Will Be Hoping These Words Come True

|

With tensions and excitement rising amongst the Tottenham Hotspur fanbase as we move ever closer to our chance to create history and lift the Champions League Trophy when we face Liverpool next month out in Madrid, the press are taking full advantage to distract us with transfer speculation and as soon as Toby Alderweireld appeared in the media to discuss the game, there were obviously questions about his future.

Everyone knows the background here, the 30-year-old centre-half saw his 12 month option kicked in a few months back but it sparks a short term £25million release fee according to reports and plenty are fearful – given the speculation – that some club will attempt to take full advantage of that.

With no new deal signed to remove that as a possibility, plenty read into it as Alderweireld being open to a departure this summer, but at least on face value, he continues to say all the right things.

Quoted by Football London, he said.

“I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years. The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well. I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season.”

As for the upcoming game, Alderweireld believed that our route through to the Final meant it was in our hands as we haven’t exactly been favourites at any point.

“If you see our route in the Champions League, it has not been easy. In the group Barcelona and Inter, Dortmund in Germany, Man City first in England and Ajax in Holland so it was a very tough route. I think the mentality of the team showed us that we can achieve anything we want.”

Everyone will definitely be hoping those words come true for sure!
