Notorious rumour mongers Don Balon are reporting that the club have targeted Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric this summer.
The 32-year-old was highly impressive during Croatia’s 3-0 win over Argentina, reminding us all, if any Spurs fan needed reminding, of his special talent.
The prospects of us re-signing the little magician are not high, and needless to say, the Twitter reaction to the story was highly sceptical:
Ahh if only it was true

Yet another new name added to the lengthening list

This is nonsense, however I think he would be a perfect signing. We need experience that still adds quality, can’t think of anyone better (within the realms of possibility).

If only ✊????????

Best midfielder in the world. We had him once but he’s not coming back.

He’s coming home, he’s coming home, he’s coming, Modric’s coming home

Give over.

What a load of drivel. Wasn’t Bale also coming home after the Champions League final? Now it’s Modric’s turn.

DON BALOOONNNN WHAT A SOURCE

Verdict:
There has been talk of Luka moving on to MLS sometime in the future, but he is still at the height of his powers, and Real are not likely to offload him any time soon.
The midfielder made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.
Don Balon are not a source that any reader should take seriously, but it certainly got a lot of people talking on social media following his superb strike for Croatia’s second last night.
