“I’d Still Be At Tottenham” – 22 y/o Feels This Season Would’ve Ended Differently Had One Thing Not Happened

|

Tottenham Hotspur Academy graduate, Kyle Walker-Peters, impressed plenty at the start of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign as he quickly became then-manager Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred choice for right back for a short period, over Serge Aurier and limited, alternative options.

With injury hitting the 22-year-old he fell back down the pack and following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, Ivory Coast international, Aurier has again regularly been preferred – although plenty of fans are mixed on his performances. The 27-year-old has been positive in attack with two goals and six assists, but he’s always prone to a wobble at the back.

Does KWP Have A Long Term Future At Spurs?

Promising But Not Ready Yet

No He's Been Held Back & We Need Better

In any event, during the January transfer window KWP headed out to Southampton for the second half of the campaign and in an interview this week with their Official Site, he explained that he felt he’d still be at White Hart Lane, had Poch not been given his P45.

“I think had he stayed, I’d still be at Tottenham. He was never really big on loans. There were always opportunities for him to send me on loan and he never did, so I think that showed his faith in me. Despite not playing me all the time, it showed that he wanted me around. If he hadn’t left, I don’t think I’d be on loan, so it just shows how fast football can change. Mourinho comes in and I get to play one game, but I don’t really get an opportunity like I thought I would, in terms of two or three games rotating with Serge Aurier, but the manager has to make decisions. That was his decision, so that’s fine. Ultimately, whatever happens, it’s positive for me, because I can only learn and only improve.”

What the future holds for Walker-Peters is open to debate, especially as debate continues on what will happen with the end of this season for a start.
