Ian Wright believes Christian Eriksen could start a free transfer movement

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that Christian Eriksen could start something of a movement at Tottenham if he isn’t granted a move to a bigger club.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5Live’s Monday Night Club via Football London, the retired striker believes that Eriksen running down his contract at the club will trigger a movement within the team that will see more star names want to move on from Spurs for free once their deals expire.

Wright said: “He’s at a club, that I believe, he thinks isn’t the right level for him now, he wants to go to the next level. Unfortunately, with the way it’s gone with Spurs and the way they’ve paid the money, they’ve tried to raise it incrementally; ‘we’ll give you another deal and another deal’.

“I think we could see a lot now with Spurs where players say, ‘no, I’ll run this one down’. I think they’ve done well locking Harry (Kane) down but now we’re seeing something at Spurs which is quite worrying, when players like that are going ‘you know something, I’m going to run this down, I’m going to move on’.”

Eriksen, who has one year left on his current deal, has been the subject of a lot of interest over the past few weeks as the playmaker admitted to The Telegraph that he was keen on moving on from Spurs in search of a new challenge in football.

Although BBC Sport reported that Manchester United were in talks to sign the Danish international, Eriksen himself favours a move to La Liga, with AS also reporting that Real Madrid are interested in the Spurs playmaker.

With the European transfer window not closing until the 31st August, there is still time for Real Madrid to make a late swoop for Eriksen with just over two weeks left to reach a deal, however, the La Liga giants are also reportedly interested in PSG star Neymar according to The Sun, which may complicate a move for the Tottenham star.
