How To Change A Game – 5 Easy Steps

1) Pick substitutes with different attributes to the starting eleven.

2) Use one at half time and replace the most under performing player.

3) Don’t be afraid to change your formation (not just a forward for an attacking midfielder).

4) Make the second substitution ten minutes after the break and take off a player who hasn’t heeded the half time warning.

5) Always make a third and don’t leave it until the final couple of minutes to do so.

Point 1: Sounds pretty easy if your options are not all like for like central midfielders and the out of favour Reto Zeigler but we could have brought YP Lee on at LB and moved Ekotto to LM.

Point 2: Will probably be Keane or Defoe but make it known; someone WILL be off at half time, unless we lead 3-0.

Point 3: Bringing on Defoe for Tanio is hardly ground breaking stuff, we could have moved Ledley into the defensive midfield role, Zokora in a more attacking role and then swapped TT for JD. Played 3-4-3 or even 3-5-2.

Point 4: Next person to play two long floating balls in a row and you’re OFF.

Point 5: Davids on for Murphy with 10 minutes to go will achieve what? Protect the lead? A player like Lee Barnard may have just got lucky (see point 1).
