Several reports this week have linked Spurs captain Ledley King and Michael Carrick with moves away from the club.
In principle that doesn’t seem such a strange thing particularly as the transfer window is about to open again and some of the biggest clubs in England are lacking players of the quality of those at Spurs, however there is a worrying side to these stories. Other players have also been linked with moves away from Spurs this window including Sean Davis, Pedro Mendes but these players are of less concern as they are not currently regularly first team choices.
King and Carrick on the other hand are probably along with Paul Robinson the very first names on Martin Jol’s team sheet every week meaning that the club would surely resist any moves for these players.
Any approaches for these players will be an interesting test of both the clubs resolve and how far the club has come in the last 18 months. If the progression of the club is to continue then Martin Jol must continue to sell the vision of a Spurs side that will eventually be competing for the top prizes home and abroad to keep these key players on board.
