“He’s an exciting player” – Spurs tipped to prioritise “fantastic” 24 y/o as Modric copy

According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will prioritise building the team around midfield ‘maestro‘ Giovani Lo Celso – with a club source allegedly claiming that the manager believes he can become our architect similar to past hero Luka Modric

Lo Celso, who signed for Spurs permanently in January following a successful loan spell, putting pen to paper in a £27.2 million switch, has been arguably impressive since English football’s resumption – particularly shining during our 2-0 victory over West Ham on Tuesday evening.

The Argentine midfielder, starting ahead of Harry Winks alongside Moussa Sissoko in midfield, grew into the game as the minutes went by and carried the ball forward on a number of occasions with real composure.

The 24-year-old also set up Harry Kane for one of his best opportunities, potentially highlighting that the ex-Real Betis man has some potential in regards to replicating Modric’s past creative influence.

As per Football Insider, that’s the belief of Mourinho, who looks set to prioritise Lo Celso as ‘central‘ to his plans for the future – believing he has the industry and creativity to dictate Spurs’ midfield.

Despite getting off to a slow start in north London, Lo Celso appears to be settling to life in the Premier League following his permanent switch – especially considering he was arguably a standout performer before the fixtures were postponed due to a global pandemic.

Seemingly impressed with the international midfielder, who Winks labelled ‘fantastic‘ and an ‘exciting player‘, Mourinho appears to have a lot of faith in Lo Celso – but only time will tell whether he can reach the heights of Modric or Christian Eriksen.
