“He Hasn’t Won Anything” – Former Spurs Player Expects Things To Change In The Future

|

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane has stated that he believes manager Mauricio Pochettino is ‘on the verge of something special’ at the club and despite ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United, he believes it’s rubbish.

Having gone down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the weekend against the Old Trafford outfit, the build-up to the game was quite interesting given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comments about Poch given his caretaker status, but Keane told Sky Sports that he felt our gaffer would be staying at the club for a long time yet, as although we are obviously yet to lift silverware under him, the progress we’ve made has given us a solid foundation.

“I’m very convinced he’ll be here for a long time. He’s said so many times that he’s happy at the club. He’s said he’s building something very, very exciting. He hasn’t won anything since he’s been here but the progress since he’s come in. This club is moving forward with Pochettino at the helm. It’s important he stays here. For him to win something at this club, for what he’s built, would be great for the team. He’s turned people like Harry Kane and Dele Alli into superstars. It’s been amazing, so it’s important for the club and Daniel Levy to keep him here. Winning a trophy needs to be as soon as possible but what he’s done in the last few years has been exceptional. I think they’re on the verge, Tottenham, of doing something special.”

There will be plenty of fans who agree for obvious reasons, but few won’t have an eye on the January transfer market believing that we need to at least freshen the group up with a new face or two to keep that progress going.

With a few outgoing links, the expectation is we’ll see those replaced at least if they do move on, but there’s every reason for confidence and optimism given the opening half of the campaign as even if the Premier League title itself is a bridge too far, the Cups should be a real possibility.
