Have Your Say: “Nothing Shameful In Losing To Bayern” – But…Spurs Have A Problem

Let me start off by saying that there is nothing shameful in losing to Bayern, even at home. They’re a good team and the result in itself isn’t the problem. Had we lost 2-4, so be it.

This being said, the manner in which the team gave up is a disgrace. Shipping away 7 goals, 3 in the space of 7 minutes, is an embarrassment. Just when we thought Colchester was a low point, this happens.

While I agree that everything went Bayern’s way on the night in terms of finishing, there is no hiding from the fact that we gave away most of those goals. We matched Bayern for long stretches, but we committed far too many mistakes defensively.

I don’t even know where to begin with this performance. We can all blame Aurier but is anybody really surprised? We’ve known for a while that he is a suspect defender. Toby and Jan are usually quite solid, but they were all over the place last night.

Playing out from the back takes confidence, and currently our confidence is shot to hell. Why MP stubbornly perseveres despite this being obvious, is beyond me. We’ve got a good shot-stopping keeper, but whose distribution is far too erratic to play that way, full backs who just aren’t comfortable enough on the ball to make it work, and centre backs who are currently a shadow of themselves.

On a positive note, Bayern’s finishing won’t always be that fortunate, and despite a bad result, we can still comfortably qualify out of the group if we win our 3 remaining games against Red Star and Olympiakos, regardless of what happens in other games. We just need to forget about this game as quickly as possible.

But we probably need to forget about winning the CL this year too. Not with that mentality.
