Harry Kane wins London Footballer of the Year award

|

At times, Harry Kane has looked like a one-man team not just this season but throughout his Spurs career, but more so ever since the drop in form from the likes of Danny Rose and Dele Alli, the sales of Christian Eriksen, Kyle Walker and Moussa Dembele and the complete lack of attacking football between Jose Mourinho’s appointment and departure.

While team trophies have been illusive to Kane during his entire career, individual honours have arrived regularly at his door step, and tonight, the England captain was named London Footballer of the Year.

Kane has so far scored 21 goals in this Premier League season after playing 30 games out of the 33, as well as setting up 13 assists, making him the top goalscorer and top assist maker for the season.

There are few players who can surely stake a genuine claim next to the Spurs striker for the PFA Player of the Year award, and even though Kevin De Bruyne looks set to win another Premier League trophy, even he is struggling to better Kane at his own game of setting up goals.

The English forward has formed an incredible partnership with Heung-min Son, breaking the record for most goals scored and assisted by one another in a season earlier in the season.

The award adds to a long-list of individual honours, which includes a World Cup Golden Boot, a couple of Premier League Golden Boots as well as his MBE title.

This year he will be aiming to win his third Premier League golden boot, while he currently is 96 goals behind Alan Shearer’s record total of Premier League goals which is 260.

However, his future at Spurs remains uncertain with the club failing to qualify for Champions League Football, but with most clubs unable to meet the £150 million valuation set by the club, it looks likely he will stay for at least another season.

Meanwhile, Erik Lamela won the goal of the season award after his ‘Rabona’ goal against Arsenal in the North London Derby a few weeks ago when he also was sent off for two soft yellow cards as we lost 2-1.
