Tottenham Hotspur made history on Saturday evening and that was even before we got to the final score in the Champions League Final clash with Liverpool out in the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino picked his strongest lineup and whilst a spot on the bench was probably harsh for Lucas Moura, Harry Kane was always really going to come back into the starting XI if fit – as did Harry Winks.
It was the worst possible start for Spurs as two minutes in Mohamed Salah was given the chance from 12 yards to put them ahead after one of the softest handball decisions I’ve ever seen in my life but although we lacked chances in the opening 45, we had possession and we certainly weren’t out of the game.
Second half we were far better and dominated the game even more, but we lacked a spark up front and despite far greater attempts on goal and on target as the game came to a close, we just couldn’t level the match and then Liverpool nicked an undeserved second late on to kill our momentum.
I’m not going to moan or talk about the penalty, or Kane or even a below par Sonny performance – I know some will disagree, but they gave their all and it just wasn’t enough on the night. We got there to begin with.
We can use this experience and heartbreak to kick on over the summer and look to brighter days next year. The score may say otherwise, but Liverpool didn’t deserve that – we have to remember it.
