Gillingham confirmed on Thursday that Conor Ogilvie had turned his loan move permanent this summer, agreeing a two-year deal at Priestfield Stadium. The 23-year-old had spent the last two years on loan with the Gils, making 79 appearances in all competitions, and supporters are delighted to hear that he’s staying.

At Tottenham, Ogilvie had Danny Rose, Ben Davies and Kyle Walker-Peters ahead of him at left-back, and Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez ahead of him at centre-back. He struggled for playing time as a result, failing to make a single first-team appearance after rising through the youth ranks, and eventually sought a loan move away.
The versatile defender joined Stevenage on August 14, 2015 and went on to make 24 appearances in all competitions as the side finished 18th in League Two. He re-joined Stevenage midway through the following season and played in 18 games with Boro finishing 10th. Ogilvie impressed enough to move up a division the following campaign, with Gillingham swooping in for the defender.
He would become a favourite in his two years at Priestfield, making 42 appearances in his debut season and 37 the following year. Ogilvie’s contract was up with Tottenham in the summer, so Gillingham seized upon the opportunity to sign him for nothing. The League One side will have to agree a fee with Spurs as the defender is under 24, but they won’t break the bank.
