Former Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Gary Lineker is no stranger to social media these days and he’s certainly not shy about giving his opinions when it comes to his former club, and news of Dele Alli’s contract extension yesterday hit all the right spots for the Match of the Day host.
Taking to the interweb to give his reaction, Lineker believed that securing our ‘star’ players was far more important that our lack of transfer dealings over the summer as it led to greater continuity and opportunity for success given the risk all new players are.
Great news for @SpursOfficial fans. These new contracts for the star players at the club are more significant and important than a new signing from elsewhere that may or may not work. https://t.co/e2TDRYcfmV

I’m not entirely sure I agree with him, although I more than get the point he’s trying to make about it being the right kind of statement to send, and it certainly gives the club far more power now when it comes to the inevitable speculation we’ll see as the January transfer window nears.
For me statements need to be better balanced though and undoubtedly fans will be eagerly looking at the January window as all squads need freshening up with new players and if we get January dealings right, and once again keep our better players, given how close we are so far in 2018/19 it could set up a very interesting end to the current campaign.
