It would appear Christian Eriksen may have burnt too many bridges where some of the Tottenham Hotspur fans are concerned.

According to a report by Football.London, Spurs are thought to be willing to offer the playmaker a new contract worth around £200,000-a-week to convince him to stay at the club – a figure that would make him the joint highest earner alongside Harry Kane (Spotrac).

Despite having a rather solid campaign once again in the middle of the field last season, having scored 1o goals and provided his team-mates with 17 assists (Transfermarkt), you cannot hide away from the fact that he went missing at some of the most crucial times throughout the year.

And, let’s not forget about the comments he made to one of the media outlets in his home nation recently suggesting that he was ready for a ‘new challenge’ (Ekstra Bladet) amid interest from Real Madrid.

Although those comments do not appear to have put off the club from trying to tie him down to a new deal and eliminate the possibility of losing him for nothing next summer, it does not seem as though some of the fans have been in an equally forgiving mood.

After learning the news regarding a possible new contract, many of them took to Twitter to express their views – and they were not necessarily in favour of Eriksen.

Lots of them had stated that they would rather sell the Denmark international this summer and make a tidy transfer fee from his sale, whilst others simply felt his head had already been turned and he would be no use to them moving forward. Here are some of their reactions…

  • Some Tottenham fans have a mixed idea about loyalty. Eriksen played his heart out for us even though he was exhausted from constantly being called upon while Spurs has been the “second team” for “Captain England” for over a year. Even the CL championship would have been different if we had played the players who got us there instead of our unprepared striker. If we want to progress next year, we need to try to sign a new contract with Eriksen and get Kane to devote his energy to the team that pays his wages.

  • I wish he ended in barcelona, with that quality around him in a less physical game he’ll thrive. I believe a trade for Isco would be a good deal, he’s sneaky enough to deal with the physical side of england

  • Come on guys stop dissing Christian Eriksen .Granted he has not been great in keys games overall he has been a wonderful and exceptional servant. Let us get real guys. Who would not want a bigger and better job?Are we always at our best in our jobs. Certainly not.!!!.Our beloved Spurs is a very big club but let us be honest we cannot compare ourselves to Real/Bayern/Barcelona/Man U.COYS

  • Could it be that Eriksen’s poor form, was due to the fact he was playing further back as DMF to cover Winks moussa injuries? many times I saw him picking up the ball edge of box, from CD toby / jan. chasing back defending as well. Poch decides the shape of the team per game, and how many times was Eriksen not playing due to injury or poor form? He scored 20 goals from outside the box, best in PL . Perhaps his new challenge is R Madrid, or if poch / levy offer him the new project spurs are starting next season, could buy into this and stay?

  • He has been rubbish for ages for us. His greatest contribution was to setup the chance for Aguerro and Sterling in the CL which fortunately we got away with. Please go, let’s get a good price and we can all move on in life.
