Fulham join Leeds and Villarreal in transfer race for Juan Foyth

|

According to The Athletic, Fulham have entered the race for Juan Foyth’s signature and may have to battle Leeds United and Villarreal to lure him to the South-West of London.

Foyth has been snubbed by Jose Mourinho this season and could be sold as we need to generate transfer funds, but it remains to be seen where he’ll go as we’re yet to receive an offer.

Fulham are desperate for a centre-back

Fulham are currently bottom of the Premier League table without a point to their name from three games. The Cottagers have conceded 10 goals already, which is the second-worst defensive record in the league.

After Fulham lost 3-0 to Aston Villa on Monday night, chairman Tony Khan apologised on Twitter and promised to bring in another centre-back before the summer transfer window closed.

Fulham currently have Michael Hector, Tim Ream and Maxime Le Marchand on the books, but The Athletic say Torino’s Gleison Bremer, Foyth and Watford’s Craig Dawson are on their shortlist.

Tottenham don’t even want Foyth as backup

The 22-year-old finds himself behind Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order and hasn’t played a single minute of football this season.

Foyth has made a total of 32 appearances for Spurs, only seven of which came in 2019/20, so he’s been on the periphery for some time. He hasn’t made an appearance in any competition since the turn of the year.

Jan Vertonghen was released over the summer, but Foyth wasn’t considered as his replacement. We’ve instead been linked with Issa Diop, Ben White, Kim Min-jae, Lewis Dunk, Diego Carlos, Milan Skriniar, Ozan Kabak, Ben Godfrey, Kristoffer Ajer, Robin Koch, Guillermo Maripán and Ruben Dias, so it’s clear Mourinho has no plans for the Argentine.

Leeds have shown an interest in Foyth while Villarreal plan to make him their right-back for the 2020/21 season, but nobody has matched our asking price. Daniel Levy paid nearly £12m for the 22-year-old in 2017 and would like to make back £15m this summer.
