Frenchman should leave Tottenham in January, he failed to impress Pochettino – opinion

|

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has an uncertain future at Tottenham, with Sky Sports predicting that the Frenchman could move on in January due to a lack of playing time under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 23-year-old has made just three starts in all competitions since joining Spurs from Olympique Marseilles in 2016 and find himself behind Christian Eriksen, Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura in the pecking order.

N’Koudou spent the second half of last season on loan at Burnley but made just eight appearances before returning to London. He’s been handed only one outing by Tottenham this campaign and surely needs to leave to get more first-team football.

Pochettino did suggest he’d be using the January transfer window to sell or loan out a number of out-of-favour players, saying: “Sometimes, players who maybe don’t play too much they need to go and play in another (club).

“OK, you can manage, but players that cannot manage to spend all the season not being important in the team, that is the moment to talk with players that are maybe disappointed because they don’t play too much.

“Maybe the best decision is to send them on loan or to sell some players but that is about when the moment arrives to talk with different players.”

N’Koudou has made the Premier League matchday squad just once this season – against Leicester City on December 12 – but wasn’t brought off the bench by Pochettino. It’s hard to see him breaking into the first-team given the talent Tottenham have on the flanks, so a move away might be the best option.

There could be interest from bottom-half Premier League sides and some Championship outfits next months, although nothing has been confirmed.
