Spurs Word On The Tweet

‘Forgot he existed’: Lots of Tottenham fans do not want to see ‘pretty bang average’ player join the club

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz this summer and it would be safe to say these fans on Twitter do not want to see him at the club anytime soon.

According to a report by Diario Gol, the 25-year-old is thought to be on our transfer radar as we look for a back-up to Harry Kane following the departure of Fernando Llorente (he no longer appears on the club’s official website despite no confirmation) and the likely exit of Vincent Janssen (Mexico’s Monterrey have recently been linked).

Real Madrid have added a number of attackers to their squad over the last couple of years and Diaz has already found it difficult to find some rhythm in the side ever since the club opted to bring him back just one season after selling him to Olympique de Lyonnais (club’s official website).

The Dominican Republic international was limited to just 22 appearances last season as he scored four times, with most of the minutes he played coming from the substitutes bench (Transfermarkt). A far cry from the 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions for the French outfit a year prior (Transfermarkt).

As mentioned, fans on Twitter did not appear to be open to the idea of him being a Spurs player, whilst it would also seem as though the forward is not either. Diario Gol suggest that Diaz is keen on remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer despite Madrid wanting to potentially offload him.

Supporters were quick to tell the club that they would rather not see him arrive with some believing he would not be good enough for us, with one claiming the 25-year-old was ‘pretty bang average’.

Here are just some of those reactions…
