Forget Eriksen: Tottenham should act upon alleged interest in lethal playmaker – opinion

|

Tottenham Hotspur allegedly hold an interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, according to a report by A Bola (via Sport Witness).

As they mentioned themselves in their article, Spurs are not credited with too much information regarding the Portuguese talent.

However, we could certainly do no harm in bringing the playmaker to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer and we should look to act upon any interest we do have in him.

Christian Eriksen may have sent us all panicking on Wednesday (5 June 2019) with his recent comments in the Danish press by stating that he would be open to a move away from the club should the likes of Real Madrid come knocking (Ekstra Bladet), but the arrival of Fernandes would surely help us to forget about our wizard.

The Sporting man has been exceptional this season for the Portuguese outfit, as he found the back of the net 32 times and provided his team-mates with an additional 18 assists in his 53 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt), making him an extremely lethal marksman.

In relation to Eriksen’s own stats, we saw our own maestro net ten times and provide 17 assists – figures that are still impressive but still pale in comparison.

There is no doubt that the 27-year-old has been a hugely influential talent for us ever since joining from Ajax, however, some of his recent performances will have left some of us questioning whether he still sees his future at the club.

If Fernandes were to arrive, surely a breath of fresh air would be injected into the side and one that could help to take Tottenham up another level. We can offer him Champions League football, whereas Manchester United (who A Bola also claim are interested) cannot.

With the Portuguese playmaker, bundles of goals and assists would be expected which could alleviate the pressure from some of Spurs’ other key individuals.
