Five reasons: How Spurs can beat Everton

|

Spurs travel to Everton tonight in what will prove to be a crucial game in both teams’ seasons as a win for the Toffees could see them leapfrog us in the table, but a win for us turns the pressure on in the race for the top four spots.

We will be desperate for revenge after Everton outplayed us on the first day of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and they then knocked us out of the FA Cup in extra time a couple months ago.

It will most certainly be difficult, but Spurs will no doubtably be fired up after the loss at home to Manchester United last weekend, and they know the fans want nothing but a win here. Here are five reasons how Spurs can beat Everton.

1. No Calvert-Lewin

It’s hard to disagree that the game was made easier from the off after hearing that England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to miss the game and the Everton starting XI will be automatically weaker with his absence – but Richarlison is a more than accomplished number nine, and while the Spurs defenders will have a little easier job, it will still be far from easy.

2. Feed Ndombele whenever is possible

Everton are blessed to have three very hard-working central midfielders in the shape of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan and Tom Davies, but all three of them have a habit of diving in. As soon as one central midfielder commits on Tanguy Ndombele, it’s problems for them as he is one of the best players not just in the league but in the world at spinning his marker and making them look like a fool. If he plays in a midfield three, we will get plenty of chances if we feed him the ball on the half-turn.

3. Son getting back in the goals

One player that seems just as hungry as any other right now is Korean forward Heung-min Son, who since his return from injury, he has already netted against Manchester United and he will be desperate to improve his tally for the season and attempt to catch up with Harry Kane in the goalscoring charts. The England captain is leading the charts at the moment, so there is no reason why Son can’t rediscover that sensational form he was in at the start of the season and make it a one-two finish at the end of the season – and he can start that mission today.

4. More preparation time

This one is debatable, as Manchester United had just two full days to prepare compared to our week and they still looked fitter, stronger and more determined then us, particularly in the second half. But, Everton are in the same position as Spurs, they aren’t playing in Europe and they are desperate for top 4. Their ambitions are now realistic and they could be feeling the pressure a little, and with Spurs having an extra day to prepare which usually means a whole lot in the Premier League, Spurs could look to bounce back and humble Everton.

5. Three-man midfield

We will lose the battle of possession by some crazy margin unless we go and dominate the game and take it to Everton and take more risks in that regard. This is because they play a three-man midfield typically, with a slightly more advanced player like Ndombele. We need energy and fight in that midfield battle which is why we believe Lo Celso should be dropped for Moussa Sissoko. If need be, lets hit Everton on the counter attack as soon as someone like Ndombele unlocks the midfield door and gets us away. There are goals up for grabs in this game.
