Tottenham have been drawn against reigning Swiss Champions CFC Basel, in the Quarter finals of the Europa league!

Basel currently sit in 2nd place in their domestic league, 2 points behind leaders Grasshoppers. But are currently in excellent form, with only two defeats (12 wins) in their last seventeen games, in all competitions. So they certainly won’t be a side that Spurs can take lightly. This season, they have had a mixed time in European competition, getting knocked out of the Pre-group stages of the Champions league to CFR Cluj and were runners up to Genk in the group stages, with 9 points from their six games, winning two of their games and both of those at home.

Of course it is difficult to know how seriously they took the early games and I must confess that I am not an avid watcher of them or Swiss football in general, so wont make any claims about how they are actually playing. but their current form is good and no doubt their confidence if high. Knock out stage wins over Dnipro (3-1) and Zenit (2-1), who of course knocked out Liverpool, give some indication that they are a capable side, who when I have watched them in CL games in previous seasons, have looked well organised and spirited. Somehow, they have always seemed to keep in games, even when they are struggling.

The first leg at White Hart Lane on Thursday, April 4 and the return leg will be the following week (11th). Both games are scheduled for an 8.05pm kick off.
