Explained: When Ryan Sessegnon could return for Tottenham

|

Ryan Sessegnon has yet to play a single minute of football since joining Tottenham from Fulham over the summer, but the 19-year-old could return from injury ahead of Spurs’ meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

As per Premier Injuries, Sessegnon has been out of action since early August with a thigh injury and was ruled out for up to four weeks. His return has been estimated for this weekend, but time will tell if he makes the matchday squad.

Alasdair Gold of Football.London recently said: “Ryan Sessegnon is hopefully on the way back. He should really be closing in… on first-team training.” Mauricio Pochettino won’t want to rush him back to fitness, however.

Tottenham have more than enough options at left-back and in midfield to offset the loss of Sessegnon, so he may be eased back into the first-team. Danny Rose and Ben Davies are fighting for a place at left-back while Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen can operate on the wing.

Spurs are winless in their last three games and can’t afford another poor result over the weekend. Tottenham are ninth in the Premier League table with seven points from four games and are already seven adrift of leaders Liverpool.

They’ll be favourites to beat Palace, but whether Sessegnon will play a part in the side remains to be seen.
