Explained: Tottenham have to pay £80m and £6.8m wages to sign left-winger

|

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have slapped a £80m asking price on Wilfried Zaha’s head. Tottenham came close to signing the 26-year-old in the past, but a deal broke down as a result of Daniel Levy being priced out of a deal. It’s hard to see him meeting Palace’s latest valuation too, as Zaha would be Spurs’ second-highest earner on £6.8m-a-year/£130k-per-week if signed.

That’s not to say Zaha wouldn’t improve the Tottenham squad, however. The Ivorian international has scored and created 12 goals in 31 Premier League appearances this season, creating 46 chances, making 99 successful dribbles (50%), averaging 29 passes-per-game with 77% accuracy, making 39 tackles and having whipped in 35 crosses with 31% accuracy.

The Palace winger has been outstanding upon his return to Selhurst Park, contributing 69 goals in 177 games in all competitions since 2015. He’s spoken out about his future with the Eagles, admitting he wants to join a side in the Champions League. Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League, three points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea and four clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.

Zaha could shine at a club like Tottenham, but it’s unlikely Levy will match his lofty asking price.
