Explained: Tottenham have to pay £50m and £3.1m wages to sign England international

|

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in signing Michael Keane this summer, but they may have competition from Arsenal and resistance from Everton. Mauricio Pochettino is preparing for the potential departure of Toby Alderweireld and will be desperate for a talented centre-back who can replace him. Keane won’t come cheap, however.

Vital Everton revealed that Everton are requesting £50m for the 26-year-old as he’s been in fantastic form this season and has made numerous caps for the England national team. Keane, who earns £3.1m-a-year/£60k-per-week has made 69 appearances in all competitions since joining from Burnley in 2017 and has been a regular at the heart of the defence under Marco Silva.

In the Premier League this season, the defender has made 162 clearances, won 163 aerial duels (62%), blocked 18 shots, made 48 passes-per-game with 80% accuracy and has averaged a tackle (36) or interception (42) every 33 minutes. He’s impressed at Everton and could be the subject of a bidding war from a number of clubs as a result.

For Tottenham, Keane would fill the homegrown quota and would join a number of England teammates in Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Harry Kane if he made the switch this summer. Everton are keen to keep him at Goodison Park, however, and could fend off all the interest in his signature. Time will tell if Spurs make any headway.
