Explained: Tottenham beset with hamstring injury, illness and hip problems – return dates

|

Tottenham have an injury crisis in midfield – Dele Alli (hamstring), Harry Winks (hip) and Eric Dier (illness) – while Jan Vertonghen (hip) is also an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s North London Derby. Mauricio Pochettino has been punished for selling Mousa Dembele in January as he’s taken the most injury hits to players in the engine room.

Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko & Oliver Skipp are available for selection and a late assessment of Winks could see him passed fit, but Tottenham won’t be at 100% against Arsenal. March will see the Londoners will welcome every player back from their respective injuries, however.

Dele is nearing a recovery, but he isn’t expected to face the Gunners on March 2, Borussia Dortmund on March 5 and Southampton on March 9. Tottenham won’t have another game after that until March 31 which should give him enough time to get himself back into contention.

Dier’s return shouldn’t be too far away, as it appears he’s just building up his fitness after so much time on the treatment table. At the bare minimum, he could make the matchday squad against Southampton. Vertonghen is in a similar situation as Winks and could yet be passed fit to face Arsenal, so he wouldn’t miss many games if he does sit out of Saturday’s game.
