Explained: How much would midfield-target cost? How much are his wage demands?

|

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are interested in signing Steven Nzonzi who could be made available for a transfer by AS Roma when the season comes to an end. The 30-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions since switching to the Stadio Olimpico, but his future is uncertain.

Calciomercato believe increased Premier League interest could see Nzonzi finally making a return to England, but it’s hard to see Tottenham signing the defensive-midfielder in the summer transfer window. Mousa Dembele’s sale in January may lead Mauricio Pochettino to identify a replacement, but Nzonzi isn’t worth the money.

The French international is valued at £26m by CIES and earns £52k-per-week at Roma, according to Capology. He still has three years left on his deal at the Stadio Olimpico, so Tottenham would be paying in excess of £34m just to match his contract. He surely wouldn’t sign a short contract with another club unless he landed a significant payrise.

Pochettino will be linked with every available midfielder over the coming months, but Nzonzi doesn’t provide any value due to his advancing age. It’s also hard to see Roma selling him if he’s playing on a regular basis.
