Explained: How much Tottenham may have to pay for highly-rated Leeds man

|

According to Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Tottenham may have to pay up to £20m to sign Jack Clarke this summer. The 18-year-old had a breakthrough season at Leeds United, making 25 appearances in all competitions which has led to growing interest from the Premier League.

Spurs scouted Clarke throughout last season and have held talks over a potential deal. The highly-rated winger is still raw and inexperienced, however, making only four Championship starts in 2018/19, so it’s unlikely he’d immediately be in the Tottenham first-team if they signed him.

There would be the option to loan Clarke back to Leeds in 2019/20 where he can continue his development and potentially get more minutes at Elland Road before returning to Spurs. He contributed four goals in 814 minutes of Championship football, creating 17 chances and making 27 successful dribbles (56%).

Mauricio Pochettino isn’t short of wide-men in the Tottenham first-team – Erik Lamela, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura – but he’s clearly thinking of the future with his interest in Clarke. The Englishman could shine in years to come under the right guidance, but Spurs aren’t currently close to sealing a deal.

Football.London were keen to highlight that there hasn’t been advanced talks.
