Tottenham have a number of positions to strengthen ahead of next season which could require a lot of spending money. Spurs went 12 months without making a permanent signing and recently paid close to £1bn for their 62,000-seater stadium, so Mauricio Pochettino isn’t expected to have a lot of funds released by Daniel Levy for new signings.
According to Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail, Tottenham have £50m to spend this summer plus whatever they can generate from player sales. It puts a lot of pressure on Pochettino to heavily trim his first-team squad before he can adequately strengthen in key areas. Spurs won’t be able to afford all their top targets this summer, so 2019/20 might be an underwhelming campaign.
The Lilywhites could be in the market for a central defender (Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen), a creative midfielder (Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, Leicester City’s James Maddison and Barcelona’s Andre Gomes), a wide-man (Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon and Hull’s Jarrod Bowen) and a centre-forward (Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson). Pochettino can’t sign them all, however.
Supporters may have hoped for a large player turnover this summer, but Tottenham may be restricted due to their reported budget.
