Explained: How much money Christian Eriksen is demanding to stay at Tottenham

|

Christian Eriksen has an uncertain future at Tottenham with his contract expiring in 2020 and no progress being made on an extension. It leaves Daniel Levy with a difficult decision to make whether to cash in this summer or risk losing Eriksen for nothing next year, but does the Spurs owner have another option?

According to the Mirror, Eriksen wants to match Harry Kane’s £10.4m-a-year/£200k-per-week salary before committing his future to Tottenham. So why doesn’t Levy pay it? Kane’s new deal broke the club’s wage structure but is believed to be a one-off as a he’s a number one asset. Eriksen has reportedly been offered considerably less money.

After Kane, Heung-min Son is Tottenham’s next highest-earner on £7.3m-a-year/£140k-per-week while Dele Alli, Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen take home £5.2m-a-year/£100k-per-week. Eriksen is currently on £4.2m-a-year/£80k-per-week and clear feels he deserves more given his quality.

The new deal Tottenham have offered hasn’t been disclosed, but it should be near Heung-min Son’s salary given his contribution for Spurs over the last six years. Levy has made it clear that paying £10m-a-year to keep the midfielder isn’t worth the money, but millions of pounds can be generated by the sale of out-of-favour players.

Is Eriksen worth £200k-per-week?
