Explained: How much are Tottenham paying for Lo Celso? When is his medical?

|

Tottenham are nearing the signing of Giovani Lo Celso after agreeing a cut-price fee with Real Betis. The 23-year-old has been on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar all summer and could be an eventual replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Betis are prepared for Lo Celso’s departure, having recently signed Nabil Fekir from Olympique Lyonnais, but it may be a few more days until Spurs can confirm their latest capture.

According to The Sun, Tottenham and Betis agreed a £45m fee for Lo Celso. The Liga side wanted £60m for the midfielder but were eventually negotiated down. He turned his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain permanent with Betis this summer for £20m and will be immediately sold for more than twice the price.

PSG will land 20% of the £45m and Rosario – who sold Lo Celso to PSG – will take 3%. Reports in Spain (h/t Daily Star) suggest he’ll fly to London this week to complete a medical. Lo Celso was pushing for a move to Tottenham all summer and has now been granted his wish.

The Argentina international made 45 appearances in all competitions for Betis last season, contributing 21 goals. He could be a great addition to the Tottenham squad.
