Explained: How has Fernando Llorente fared at Napoli since leaving Tottenham?

|

Fernando Llorente left Tottenham after his deal expired over the summer and signed for Napoli on a free transfer in September. Spurs tried to re-sign the 34-year-old on a reduced contract but failed in their pursuit and Llorente is now flourishing in Naples.

As per Transfermarkt, the Spanish international has made four appearances in all competitions for Napoli, scoring and creating four goals. Llorente has had his hand in a goal every 39 minutes and may have Tottenham regretting letting him go.

In Serie A, the imposing centre-forward made an assist as Napoli beat Sampdoria 2-0 (September 14) and netted a brace in a 4-1 win over Leece (September 22). In the Champions League, Llorente scored as Napoli won 2-0 against Liverpool (September 17).

He contributed 19 goals in 66 games in a two-year stint at Tottenham and was at his best last season – eight goals and five assists in 11 starts. Llorente was content playing second fiddle to Harry Kane, but now the Lilywhites are short on attacking options.

Spurs are paying the price for failing to replace the Spaniard over the summer.
