Explained: How did Cameron Carter-Vickers get on for Stoke against Bristol City?

|

Cameron Carter-Vickers has struggled for playing time since joining Stoke City on loan, but he was given a rare start against Bristol City on Saturday –  the 21-year-old was named alongside Bruno Martins-Indi and Liam Lindsay in a three-man defence.

Stoke fell short at the Britannia Stadium, however, after leading the game until the 55th minute. The Potters found themselves 2-1 down after the hour mark and failed to find an equaliser before the final whistle. Saturday’s result sees Stoke rock bottom in the Championship with only one point from seven games.

Against Bristol City, Carter-Vickers played for 90 minutes, made 47 touches, won three aerial duels, made one tackle, created one chance, made two interceptions, completed 78.4% of his 37 passes, made three clearances, completed one dribble and blocked one shot.

His outing is bittersweet. The central defender will relish getting more opportunities under Nathan Jones, but Stoke could be in for a long season. The Potters have conceded more goal than any other side in the Championship (17) and have yet to keep a clean sheet.

Stoke have conceded two or more goals in every league game, so Carter-Vickers certainly has his work cut out in turning things around.
