Erm, Nurse – Spurs Get Absolutely Hammered By Bayern & I Didn’t See It Coming – Match Stats

|

After a poor week for Tottenham Hotspur, manager Mauricio Pochettino saw his first team squad battle hard when we faced Southampton last weekend, but earlier this evening, it was back to Champions League action as we hosted German giants Bayern Munich at White Hart Lane.

It was always going to be another tough encounter, but with plenty of positives to be taken from the way we dug in against Southampton, plenty were confident that we could come out with a positive result from this Group B clash.

Son Heung-Min certainly advanced hope of just that as he found the back of the net 12 minutes into the game, but Bayern had levelled matters within three minutes and the first half was fairly even really. A late Lewandowski effort did send us into the break 2-1 behind though, so it was time to dig in again.

Sadly, we didn’t and by minute 53 it was 3-1 and it felt like the clouds were assembling but we’d had equal the number of shots on target, we just weren’t making them count and in the time it took me to write that, they’d grabbed a fourth.

We did rally and Harry Kane hit a 61st minute penalty to make it 4-2, but it then fell apart in the final ten minutes and Lewandowski grabbed his brace as Gnabry made it a hattrick and 6-2 wasn’t pretty for anyone. Gnabry then grabbed a fourth to make it 7-2 and if fans weren’t drinking before, they certainly were now.

Thankfully, that was where it ended but there will be those amongst us having nightmares tonight.
