Dutch Club Reveal Talks With Spurs Did Take Place For £20m Rated Starlet

|

Ajax have confirmed that we tried to recruit Justin Kluivert last summer during the negotiations to sign Davinson Sanchez.

The proposal (which was reportedly worth £20m) would have seen the teenager remain at the Dutch club for a further two years. In a statement to de Volkskrant, they said:

“Spurs’ proposal was that Kluivert would play in Amsterdam for another two years and that he would then go to Spurs. We did not go further on that, because we wanted to renew Justin’s contract.”

Although negotiations didn’t get very far in August, it does seem the player himself was unsettled by Ajax’s apparent willingness to negotiate his sale.

In an explosive interview yesterday, Kluivert revealed he won’t be signing another contract at the Eredivisie side and would consider leaving the Johan Cruyff Arena following recent events.

In the Dutch league this season, the 19-year-old has scored ten goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances. The latest developments suggest we could take advantage of the situation, although other clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be in the mix.

A promising young winger, Kluivert would certainly fit the criteria that we would be looking for so we’ll have to see what will happen over the next few weeks and months.
