Dropped Points In Perspective

I have made a list of most of the points dropped by the top 6 teams. These are points that supporters would expect their club to win. I have not included games where the top 6 teams played against each other and I have not stated whether the games were at home or away (it doesn’t seem to make so much of a difference these days).

POOL – drew with Sunderland, Pool lost to Burnley, Pool drew with Sunderland (again), Pool lost to Bournemouth, Pool lost to Swansea, Pool drew with Hammers. Six poor results?

UNITED – drew with Burnley, United drew with Hull, United lost to Watford, United drew with Stoke, United drew with Hammers, United with Everton, United drew with Stoke. Seven poor results?

ARSENAL – drew with Leicester, Arsenal drew with Borough, Arsenal drew with Bournemouth, Arsenal lost to Everton, Arsenal lost to Watford. Five poor results?

CITY – drew with Everton, City drew with Saints, City drew with Borough, City lost to Leicester, City lost to Everton. Five poor results?

SPURS – drew with Everton, Spurs drew with WBA, Spurs drew with Bournemouth, Spurs drew with Leicester, Spurs drew with Sunderland. Five poor results?

CHELSEA – drew at Swansea. 1 poor result!!!

What does this suggest?

To me it suggests that Chelsea is obviously the stand-out team so far this season. It also suggests that the games Spurs have dropped points in are not unusual results. It happens to all teams. Maybe it’s time we all accepted the EPL for what it is, a highly competitive league. Instead of blaming and criticising a team excessively, we should understand the realities of the EPL and give some credit to opposing teams for performing well and achieving a difficult result.
