‘Dreadful’, ‘Ineffective’ – some fans criticise Tottenham midfielder after Sheff Utd draw

Dele Alli came in for some criticism by supporters after Tottenham drew 1-1 with Sheffield United. The 23-year-old frequently relinquished possession on Saturday and found himself substituted in the second-half as a result.

Dele has struggled for consistency in 2019 but looked to have turned a corner after impressing in Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Everton. His latest showing over the weekend led to fans slating him again, however.

Against United, the England international played for 71 minutes, made 57 touches, created two chances, completed 75.7% of his 37 passes, made six tackles, drew three fouls and made one successful dribble.

Dele has made 10 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating three goals. The midfielder has scored twice in his last four Premier League appearances, but he didn’t impress Mauricio Pochettino on Saturday and found himself hauled off for Juan Foyth.

The 23-year-old’s performance wasn’t all bad. He was harrying the opposition and turning over possession, but he didn’t have a big influence on the day and struggled to find his teammates at times. Nevertheless, Dele will hope to put things right away to West Ham United on November 23.
