Davy Klaassen names which Tottenham player will be ‘one of the best in the world’

|

Davy Klaassen was full of praise for Davinson Sanchez, saying the Tottenham defender will be “one of the best defenders in the world”. Sanchez has made 55 appearances in all competitions for Spurs since his 2017-move from Ajax and has challenged Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld for a starting place.

Sanchez was a regular at the heart of the defence in his debut season at the club, featuring in 10 Champions League outings, 31 Premier League games and their FA Cup quarter-final and semi-final matches. The 22-year-old has shown real promise for Tottenham and could have a bright future under Mauricio Pochettino.

Klaassen played with Sanchez when the pair were at Ajax until the end of the 2016/17 season, reaching the Europa League final together during their time at the Johan Cruijff Arena, and believes the Colombian international will go on to become one of the best centre-backs around. He told Goal: “I think (Davinson Sanchez) does great at the moment.

“I think from the beginning he was so good and I have no doubt that he will be a top, top player. I don’t know where he will go after this, but I’m sure he’ll be one of the best defenders in the world”. Sanchez wasn’t first-choice in defence for Tottenham at the start of the season, but recently returned to the fray in Vertonghen’s injury absence.

With Vertonghen and Alderweireld’s future up in the air at Tottenham, Sanchez will become an even more important player for Pochettino.
