Hardly a shock to anyone, but it has been confirmed that Spurs have signed Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea City and Gylfi Sigurdsson is returning to Swansea, where he spent the second half of the 2011/12 season.

Davies who was twenty-one in April, would, you imagine, be considered as the first choice left back for this season, though it also adds real competition for the position for the first time in a while, if Danny Rose and Zeki Fryers remain at the club.

Vorm, will effectively replace Brad Friedel as the back up keeper to Hugo Lloris, but with the departure of Heurelho Gomes at the end of last season, the club retain three experienced keepers, which perhaps offers a question mark over the future of the younger pack, including Jordan Archer, a player that surprised me in not being loaned out last season.

Though last season was a frustrating one for Vorm, due to injury, he is a more proactive keeper than Friedel and one that is more likely to compliment Lloris`s Sweeper-keeper style, if that is possible. At 30, he remains a player with time on his side, though you hope he has been brought in as purely a back up / competition, and not a replacement to Lloris, even though Hugo has signed a new deal.

It is a little sad, though perhaps inevitable that Gylfi has left the club and though he hasn`t exactly lived up to the level of performance I believed he was capable, I maintain that he is a very decent player, but one that I struggled to see beyond a back up option. Saying that, I think he will suddenly look a very good player in a Swansea shirt, but was he just unlucky or unable to make that extra step up?..
