Davies and Doherty unavailable for Manchester United clash

|

Ben Davies and Matt Doherty remain on the injury list for at least another match day as Spurs will host Manchester United on Sunday without either of the full-backs available.

Davies is a player that Mourinho admires and while he doesn’t particularly offer as much as Sergio Reguilon technically and physically, he is a great leader on and off the pitch for the club.

Meanwhile, Doherty has been particularly disappointing since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer for around Β£15 million, and now looks like he is behind homegrown talent Japhet Tanganga as well as Serge Aurier in the pecking order at the club.

“Good news. Ben Davies and Matt Doherty are the only players that are not available to play. So they are still injured. Of course getting better,” Mourinho said speaking to the press ahead of the game on Sunday against United.

“But no more injury news. Everybody available.”

The news will mean Reguilon will get the chance to redeem himself for his very poor performance against Newcastle last week, as Joelinton and Jacob Murphy bullied Spurs and made our defence look like a non-league team.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will not take any part in the clash against Spurs, while Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba may also be potentially forced to sit out or at least start the game from the bench having suffered small minor injuries.

The news is a boost for Spurs, who also have had the advantage of being able to have longer to prepare due to United’s involvement in the Europa League, as they beat our former player Roberto Soldado and Granada 2-0 away from home last night.

Rashford was rested in the hope he will recover in time, but other than him, just Edinson Cavani was arguably the only player that didn’t start who is apart of their strongest team on paper, but even he along with Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles all featured in the game coming off the bench.

The advantage is in Spurs’ court with the game being at home as well and a much smaller injury list for Mourinho to deal with, so hopefully we can build upon the 1-6 thrashing at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
