David Beckham IS NOT Spurs Bound

I think this article perfectly highlights how the press make a story out of a non-story.

The Sunday Mirror today claim that Martin Jol will be making a multi-million pound move for Real Madrid’s David Beckham in the summer. Right, interesting story, in a national paper, so it has to have some substance doesn’t it?

NO.

Martin Jol has told the Daily Star Sunday: ‘Of course I have a lot of respect for David Beckham but I’ve never said I want to sign him. We are fine here as it is. We already have Aaron Lennon. Beckham is a non-runner.’

Exactly right, we have a youngster in our team who looks like he could be world class, so why would we even need to think of getting David Beckham to White Hart Lane? Fine, the marketing would be good but at what cost to the development of Lennon? Far too high a cost is the answer as Becks would not move to Spurs just to sit on the bench.

So, no more speculation on Beckham coming to Spurs, it isn’t going to happen and we don’t need it to happen! The People carry another story on the former England captain saying he will take a massive pay cut to return to Manchester United. Not that I’m bothered, but I can’t see that either, no player who falls foul of Sir Alex returns to Old Trafford do they?

Becks is also being linked to a move to the American league, something that would possibly make more sense, although in years gone by going to America was a way to make a little bit more money and pretty much end your career with ease. Beckham always seemed too competitive a player to just tread water?

Oh, and in various other papers we are being linked with Moroccan left winger Adil Chihi who is currently at Cologne.
