Competition for Moroccan arrives

|

Earlier today, Spurs were linked with former January transfer target Sofyane Amrabat of Morocco and Fiorentina – read about those links here.

Indeed, while Spurs seemingly had a free run at the 26-year-old back in January (if Sport Witness are to be believed anyway), reports from Il Corriere dello Sport (via Team Talk) have also emerged today that fellow Premier League side and top-four challengers Liverpool have thrown their hat into the ring for the industrious Moroccan anchorman.

It is no great secret that Liverpool are after a midfield revamp. Indeed, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner (who is quickly approaching 40) all over the dreaded age of 30. Naby Keita and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain also look set to depart as free agents, and the once-formidable Fabinho is out of sorts for one reason or another.

Furthermore, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are both seemingly too young to be leaned on constantly in Liverpool’s engine room. It would therefore be logical for Liverpool to be after a midfielder – any midfielder, let alone an industrious, experienced one in the mould of Amrabat.

While he is nowhere near as glamorous as names the Liverpudlians have been linked with in recent times, such as Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice, Team Talk report that the fact that it would take a modest transfer fee to prize him away from La Viola – coupled with his measly weekly wage of £29,ooo  – has been music to the ears of Liverpool owners FSG.

One would logically assume that these relatively meagre outlay (and yes, I do find it tragic that in this context, £29,ooo a week is considered a pauper’s income) would also have the Spurs boardroom doing the conga.

Either way, the primary beneficiaries of this saga, irrespective of where Amrabat ends up, would be the Moroccan and his agent, as one would assume Amrabat would land a hefty pay-rise should he land in English shores.
