Regardless of the disallowed goal, we were second best all over the pitch today.
Even their bench would have been playing for us.

This is where Levy starts panicking and delving into the bargain bins of blue cross sales or trying to get a cheap last minute loan deal. Watch out for the 11th hour deals of unknowns.

Will Conte last? Many pundits are already forecasting his exit. He is a world class coach looking for a world class club. We were lucky to get him but he will be gone soon.

  • wentworth says:

Dele, Lo Celso and N’Dombele were all 100% fit today but no where near the team or bench.

Rumour has it that Conte wants rid of all three ” midfielders” as they have all had their chances and sadly been well below what we need.

Today’s game showed how poor we are in midfield and have been since Eriksen left. We set up defensively today and were totally over run and outplayed.

We also had no one on the flanks. Consequently, it was scraps for Kane.

  • 123spurs says:

Pancake spursday ~ we get turned over again

  • Niall D says:

WW we have been poor since the departure of Dembele, Wanyama, and Ericsson started to become disinterested. They were never properly replaced.
We are where we are, but many of us, are crying out for the midfield player to drive the game, I just thought we would give a better account of ourselves, I sort of understand the team selection, but I think we should’ve at least started with Wednesdays line up.
We can’t win every game,, espically against such strong competition, we do need to strengthen /freshen the squad, over to Levey.
Personally I don’t see AC going anywhere, he has taken on this task and has taken on worse and made winners from those teams, but Levey and Co need to butt out of scouting and simply privide dosh.

    • 62rovinella says:

levy and co need to sell up….if you have no interest in the footballing side of affairs dont own a football club…..buy some hotels….
january is near done and no business done…it could have made a difference…kmt…
there was ample time to identify targets and move early but no…the usual nonsense.
and why are we always broke?levy and co needs an empty stadium in the next home game if conte is not backed.
and he wants champions league without proper investment??…damn

  • 123spurs says:

It’s all about attitude etc, look at wolves, solid playing as a team, no drama. No superstars yet putting in a good shift.

  • jod says:

Usual “spend more money” crap. No explanation of where it comes from. No explanation of how we avoid blowing it on another N’Dombele, there’s £55m we won’t get back with zero improvement to the squad. Sadly we appear to be buying Traore, another £20m down the drain.

  • Niall D says:

Hi 123 six months ago and most of last season, I would’ve agreed with you, however I do feel that the attitude, mentality, fitness and overall commitment of the team has vastly improved.
With that said Chelsea were simply a better team at home, with better players.
1st goal a bit of a worldie but they beat us, they weren’t all over us but they were better.
Had we been given that Kane goal, who knows, but we need to improve some of our players.

  • wentworth says:

Yes Jod we have wasted money on N’Dombele, Lo Celso ( 27 million for a loanee), Doherty, Emerson, Bryan Gil, Bergweijn etc
That should not stop us from investing in better players. We have made massive mistakes. Who is responsible for that I wonder?
Conte has recognised our weaknesses. He must be supported, not fobbed off.

  • Frank says:

Possibly last nights result will serve to convince Ebenezer Levy and Co that our current squad is just not good enough to compete at the top level. We need to strengthen in several positions, but as usual we have frittered away yet another transfer window with no activity. One wonders why Conte has thrown in his lot with a club with absolutely zero ambition to improve and progress, which once again Spurs appear to be. We now have 7 days to look for the usual cheap last minute non deal that has become the Levy trademark. Never mind we have the Lewis Levy emporium, 60,000 seats to watch a nearly team that will win nothing until ENIC sell up and move on, the sooner the better. Oh for an owner who wants to own a football club, rather than a real estate empire.

  • BelgianSpur says:

jod – Well if the solution isn’t “spend more money”, what is it? We’re all ears.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Posts above are all saying what we have known for 22 years of enic / joe / levy ownership.
The quality of our scouting system is well below other PL top 6 teams, which poch said he did not buy players recommended because they were not better than we had !

We know joe wanted to sell up last year but control freak levy refused, which will be the situation until the development plans for cinema / flats etc completed, so we can expect another 3 years of the same situation on football squad quality.

We now have an embarrassing possible stand off with levy and promises of funding purchase of players made to conte not honoured, and we will see another top manager depart….

  • Niall D says:

    Morning folks,
I feel our issue (IMO) is that we have largely been guilty of late in trying to spread our funds much too thinly we have been doing this even since the “Bale money’ days.
In short we try to spread 50 mil over 3 prospects rather than buying 1 or two established players.
I know about N’Dombele, but to a degree even he was a prospect, pre Covid prices, paying 50 mil in an effort to get 70 mil down the lin
It doesn’t always have to be 21 to 23 Yr old, we need a 29 Yr old perhaps in midfield to settle things and run the centre of the park, or at CB to bring a bit of nouse.
But we’ll do the usual, Prospect buying.

  • Frank says:

6 days to go, still no action by Spurs. Is our current squad that good that we don’t need to make signings. Our problem as usual is the reluctance of our ownership to spend money, always seeking the cheap option. The exception of course was the exorbitant expenditure on the new stadium, the self indulgent prestige legacy of Lewis and Levy. We have ended up with best house on the street with no furniture in it. How often will it be filled whilst the product on show is substandard. If we manage to add Contes name to the list of sickened off Spurs managers frustrated by the club’s lack of ambition, hopefully Levy will be left in no doubt as to the feelings of the supporters towards him and Lewis, and they vote with their feet.

  • wentworth says:

What is the point of a top manager/coach and then giving him blunt and rusty tools.
Surely one has to invest in some top quality equipment to do the job. Cheap, second hand tools are usually well past their best.
We have billionaire owners, multi millionaire chairman and we seem unable to sign decent players. Although it seems some do not want to come to an unambitious club anyway.

  • wentworth says:

Looks as though we are going to be lumbered with N’Dombele ( total disaster), Lo Celso (1 prem goal and 3 assists in over 2 years..waste of money), Doherty ( waste of money), Emerson ( waste of money), Bergweijn (erratic poor buy), Tanganga, Winks, Dele, Bryan Gil (waste of money).
We very much need a huge clear out. Conte has recognised this but is not being supported by miserly Levy. Conte keeps trying. How long will his patience last?

  • Niall D says:

I’ll just Wade in a bit again, we do have quite a few decent players and (for me) a nucleus of a team that can be worked with, we do need some recruits, don’t forget we are in the top 4 discussion even in our current flux, we won’t get a Premier league winning team in this TW, but we do need several recruits to improve us as a team.
When we were with Nuno and JM we were quite often Eeking out results with the team body language poor and playing style pedestrian, and even the lower placed clubs were looking better than us.
Since AC has come in, for me, with the exception of the Chelsea games, with our best players on the pitch usually we are the better side, we are creating by and large more chances, covering more ground, there is, still work to do to be up there with the ManC and Chelsea’s but we can hold our own with those around us.
We do need a seed change in how and whom we recruit, and two or three players(in and out) before the TW ends could vastly improve us.

    • PompeyYid says:

Oh Niall, how are you going? ok it seems! as you have just posted something that is sensible lol!

So please stop being reasonable lol! COYS

  • 123spurs says:

These players seem to be individuals etc, we struggle to defend and attack as a team, but if one of these players go to another team then they could flourish.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi PY,
Trust you and yours are well.
Believe it or not m8 just finished recording a few songs “what I wrote,” just finishing off tomorrow.
Hopefully get on UTube or similar, keep ya posted.
But on the back of 123’s last comment, our team does need a bit of refreshing, and certainly a few players need the exit door, as much for their own sake, it doesn’t always work out, unfortunately for us it seems a common occurrence, but good solid players for those positions we’ve nearly all said should see progress.

    • Frank says:

Does anybody seriously believe all the hype and rumour regarding players who we are interested in, looking at etc. The key is “who have we signed” how many photos have we seen of players holding a Spurs shirt? The answer is of course “none”. This window is following the usual “Spurs pattern”, Levy playing his silly little games that almost always back fire, and we end up missing out. We have been here soo many times before.

  • wentworth says:

We really need to take a serious look at our flops and ask why?
Jack Clarke, Lo Celso, N’Dombele, Doherty, Emerson, Bryan Gil, Bergweijn.

Is it our poor scouting? Have they deteriorated?

We also need to look at the backward steps …Dele ( a fantastic young player and ex international), Winks (ex international), Sanchez (expensive international), Tanganga( potential top academy prospect)

    What goes wrong?

Son and possibly Hojberjg have been the only recent successes.

    Can anyone explain?

  • Niall D says:

    Hi WW
It ain’t for us to answer, unfortunately it’s down to Levey and Co and what scouting methods he used, which takes us back to Liverpool or even the likes of Southampton or Leicester who appear to bag more for their buck.
Re Dele, I still think it runs back to an injury in 2018 World Cup, he came back too early and had a repeat, during this time his wonder kid title got into his physice, and for me he has never really wanted to put the work in, he now has the life style, the house, the Beemer or what ever, the hunger just isn’t there because 100k a week keeps coming in.
Re Clarke, just too early, he may still progress.
Re LoCeslo, N’Dombers Gil and Bergs being good in Euro leagues ain’t the same as the weekly pressure of the stamina needed for the prem, you can afford to be that light skillfully even lazy player on occasions as many of the lower clubs are beatable even on a bad day.
So it is a big step up for these guys when you have to do more than “your job” hence, (For me) the reason why many of them shine when they go abroad, see: Trippier, CCV, Lamella, Froyth, to mention but a few.
It could also be said that many of our incumbent players do exceptionally well on the international stage, Bergs, Hoj and Lo Ceslo, Rodon for example.
Perhaps it is as 123 says, they are actually decent players as individuals but fail to gel when in a Spurs shirt.
I think I have created more questions than answers here WW sorry chum🙄😉

    • wentworth says:

Thanks for trying to explain things to me Niall. Some valid points there.

      • Love totty says:

The end of the Poch era was a shambles. He was stale, Dembele was gone, Eriksen disillusioned, Kane injured and then preferred to Lucas in the CL final. Jose couldn’t fix it with the players he had and nor could Nuno. Now Conte has his clear out so the chance is there to rebuild motivation without the malcontents. Our problem on the pitch is ball retention in transition from defense to attack through midfield. If these new guys improve that with more energy, mobility and control then we have a chance of Top 4. I think we have reasonably good defenders if not put under such sustained pressure that poor possession brings and our attacking options are among the best. Hope springs eternal
