Club “Categorically Denies” Having Any Interest In This Spurs Man – So The Press Can Stop But They Won’t

Rumours linking Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen with a move away from the club this August are not new. Yesterday evening the most prominent club named as a likely destination, Paris Saint-Germain, informed the footballing world that the speculation was neither big nor clever either.

Following further speculation in the Sunday red tops about the 26-year-old’s future, yesterday night Sky Sports produced a follow up piece whilst most eyes were on the game against Manchester United.

With the Denmark international again linked with a £100million move to Parc des Princes with the European transfer deadline not closing until August 31st, PSG seem to have taken the strange step of flat-out rubbishing what can only have been, by implication, effectively journalistic invention.

The statement Sky quote was apparently sent to the AP newswire and it reads simply as PSG “categorically denies the transfer rumours regarding a potential transfer of Christian Eriksen to PSG.”

It goes on to further clarify, that the reports appearing in the media on both sides of the Channel “seem to ignore the current reality of the transfer market.”

I assume the current reality of the transfer market is how closely they are being looked at by French and European Financial Fair Play authorities given their spending, beginning with the capture of Neymar to name just one headline signing in the life of the club but I also believe Gianluigi Buffon has also joined their ranks more recently.

Whilst that should end the speculation, especially as Spurs are now unable to strengthen until the January window opens anyway, Sky almost immediately pivot to a story they ran linking him with Real Madrid…so on it goes.
