‘Class’, ‘Great performance’ – some fans praise Tottenham midfielder after Huddersfield win

|

In Saturday’s 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town, Victor Wanyama was given a rare start in midfield by Mauricio Pochettino and put in a fantastic performance. The 27-year-old got himself on the scoresheet for good measure and was praised for his overall contribution by some fans on social media.

Against Huddersfield, Wanyama played a full 90 minutes, making 89 touches, 71 passes with 89% accuracy, four tackles, two successful dribbles, two shots with one hitting the back of the net and drawing two fouls. He was alongside Moussa Sissoko at the heart of the midfield and may have shown Pochettino that he could still have a future at the club next season.

The Kenyan international has been short of playing time in 2018/19, making just 14 appearances in all competitions (553 minutes), only six of which have been starts. Wanyama has made eight Premier League appearances this season and his start against Huddersfield was only his second in 2019.

He was dipped for a summer departure due to the lack of opportunities under Pochettino, but Wanyama proved his worth on Saturday and may be worth holding on to for at least another campaign.
