Let’s buy one big ready name player. The place is buzzing right now, time to make a statement. Get transfers done early as possible and remember we have another fight to get top4 next season.

Spend money to stay in the top4 with UCL revenue

Or spent money to try and get back into the top4 with EL revenue. You pick.

Well done to all the players on achieving top4 and conte at the wheel.

  • wentworth says:

What an incredible day yesterday and just reward to Conte for his consistent team selection. Every player knew his role and even Emerson Royal and Sessegnon managed to up their games.
Very impressed with the cultured Bentancur and the awkward but talented Kulusevski… thanks goodness for the Jan transfer window.
So pleased for the irrepressible Son…Golden Boot with goals only scored in open play. He could have had four yesterday. Such a great guy.

Now it’s up to Levy to blow the moths away and support Conte. We have a few players to offload and we need to strengthen the squad so we have some decent subs. Lots of matches and competitions next season. So much to look forward to.

    Some good posts there folks
    Love the positivity
I’m glad many of us, are enjoying the result and indeed there is, a spring in my step today.
As has been said (I think BS) let’s hope next year is less of a “soap opera.
DH just echoing your thoughts chum.
Nothing wrong with a it of positivity.
    COYS.

block 108 spurs – “it is well known “, “it is fair to assume”. So basically you know nothing, thanks for making that clear.

  • jod says:

One thing that does strike me in all this is the role of the new stadium. Without the revenue that is now generating (according to Alistair Gold they generate £1m a game just on beer sales) we would be in a much weaker financial position and transfers would be harder. Levy got plenty of criticism while we were building it, of course he gets no credit now its showing its value.

    • BelgianSpur says:

Jod – what were the revenues on beer at WHL?

It’s all fine and well throwing big numbers around but if you don’t provide context, how can we know what this number means?

If beers sales were 900k per game at WHL this would hardly be an impressive number.

You often accuse others of throwinhg numbers around when they don’t understand them. Classic example?

Additionally, if Levy is only going to use the stadium as a cash cow and not reinvest any of the additional revenues in the team, those numbers mean nothing. Making lots of money is not really a goal in itself, for a football club – at least it shouldn’t be.

  • jod says:

DoncasterHotspur – “Intellectual standards”, wow. I didn’t realise that a simple question like how much money do we actually have to spend was so taxing. You really do believe in setting the bar as low as possible don’t you ?

  • PompeyYid says:

Word on the street is ENIC have injected £150m capital in, how true? I have no bloody idea! plus why would it be made public?

Mind if true, I hope its the first step! COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

£150m injection from ENIC, has been announced on the Spurs Website, very good! COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – it simply would not be possible to set the bar as low as you do with your inane comments and ignorant put downs. I know you don’t read other peoples posts properly but so many people have given Levy credit for building the stadium. Your irresistible urge to put other people down(heaven knows why) seems to trump any ability you have to engage in a sensible debate.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think many were sceptical about the club investing the increased income from the stadium into development of the squad……..I think we have our answer now!

    • BelgianSpur says:

      How so, TQ2Spurs?

An injection in capital doesn’t necessarily mean the resources are going to be invested in the squad.

As a matter of fact, the official announcement itself says it gives the club more ability to invest “on and off the pitch”.

For all we know, most of that money could in fact be earmarked for the upcoming phases of the redevelopment project around the stadium, with only a fraction going into the squad.

I’m still very much in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp, which isn’t all that strange considering our chairman’s history.

  • Allan says:

BS That was exactly my thoughts when I read the announcement
I have no faith in the board investing effectively in the playing side of the club .
Their record is of real estate buying then wailting to sell for a huge profit rather than making prudent investments in the team .
Actions will be louder than words so don’t hold your breath !!
However I may be totally wrong and they will invest to appease Conte
    Pigs flying ?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That’s why I moved over to the forum, there are so many miserable pessimists here.

  • Niall D says:

    TQ
    What’s the forum??
For me I’m glad to see any monies invested In players, surely something will also come from player sales.
The way these finance people announce investment, it looks like they’re using their own dosh where perhaps, a lot of it could come from deals.
BTW anybody notice that we’re linked with Fraser Foster, not sure if this is a good, signing, not because of performance, he is a very good keeper, my issue is that he is similar in age to Lloris, much like Hart was, I would prefer an understudy at around 29 which would give us, a couple of years, should, Lloris get a long term injury or decide to go.
Just my thoughts, but for me he us, a very good keeper.

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi Niall, I believe we tried to get Johnstone who fits your description but he reportedly rejected us because we couldn’t guarantee enough playing time. I guess this is why so many clubs have older experiences goalies as backup to their number ones.

If you are registered with Vital Spurs just click on ‘Forum’ at the top of the page and then on ‘Dare To Do’ and it will list all of the live threads which you can read and comment on.

  • jod says:

DoncasterHotspur – “so many people have given Levy credit for building the stadium”, really ? Care to name some of them ?

  • jod says:

Allan – So what real estate have Spurs sold for a huge profit ? The only commercial deal I can think of is the lease to Sainsburys and of course we still own that .

  • jod says:

£150m if invested in the squad would be enough to strengthen it but not transform it, you’d need oil money for that. Just how far the money goes would be down to how good a job Paratici did. I can’t see much money coming in from player sales. There’s no one we want to sell anyone seems to want to buy (Carter-Vickers apart and £6m changes nothing). The rules of the game haven’t changed from Pochettino’s time. City will always be able to outspend you so both the scouting system and the the youth set up have to deliver. Paratici is supposed to have reorganised the scouting system so we’ll see how it does in the summer.

    • BelgianSpur says:

.Lo Celso has just helped Villarreal reach the CL semis, and been their best player in the second half.

I can’t imagine any European club being interested in his services right now…

Likewise, Bryan Gil has just helped Valencia to the Copa del Rey final, and most reports from Spain list him as an important factor in that run.

Jack Clarke has just helped Sunderland back to the Championship.

      CCV at Celtic.

Between those 4 players alone, there’s at least 50 million for the club to recoup.

You talk so much nonsense jod.

You look at NDombele and sure, he might be harder to sell. But I’ve just listed 4 players who have improved their stock in the last 6 months and you hadn’t even looked at how they had performed.

If Levy is intent on holding out for unreasonable fees, then sure selling them might be a challenge. But that logic would apply to any player in the world, no matter how good. If you take the most desirable player in the world, and try to sell him for double his worth, it’ll be tough.

If the club is happy to move on from past mistakes and take fair market value for unwanted squad players, there is probably 100 million to recoup across 7 or 8 players.

For the sake of using an extreme example, if we were willing to sell Tanguy for 5 million, don’t you think there would be takers?

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – I know reading and digesting other peoples comments isn’t really your thing but if you were to do so, you would see endless credit for Levy. He has received criticism for the way he deals with transfers/managers but also praise for the stadium.

  • Niall D says:

    Morning folks
Hi TQ thanks for the recco.
    Re player sales
Still disagree re costs, and would point to Lukaku as a blue print, not all big money spent is good money.
I would argue that the money we spent on Kulu tho’ much less was better, it appears he out performed the likes of Zyech (selling) and Gundohan (spelling) since joining Tottenham.
So as I said in January, and I feel this has been our issue over thh last few seasons, it’s about spending the right monies in the right areas, and not the “Scatter gun” approach so rightly used by BS (I think).
Now Ericksen is available for free, so why not, as is Bale, who could cover several areas on the pitch, older players but with guile and still a few miles on the clock, but with younger players as back up in Kulu and Bente, or Skipp.
I feel this is a step we should be taking, assessing what we need, who is out there for decent money, who fits our system.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Jod if you bothered to read the media reports, and conte’s own dialogue since he joined spurs, and which has been quoted word for word you would know the answers to your questions. But of course you just try to be sarcastic and negative in your posts. With no details to back up your comments for example as to name players spurs need and various /funding amounts/sources/ available. Just why you are so negative ? I have noticed others on here are effectively fed up as I am in reading your derogatory posts. So I’ll not bother now.

  • BelgianSpur says:

TQ2Spurs – is it about pessimism, or is it about realism?

    Fool me once…

We may well be cynics but your first post seemed so definitive… I think it’s just far too early for that.

The truth id that the money may yet be used in a number of ways and you know it too.
