Ajax have rejected a €55m (£48m) bid from us for centre-back Matthijs De Ligt, according to TMW.

The Italian rumour mongers report that Manchester City are also in the race to sign the 18-year-old and have made a €60m (£53m) bid of their own.

That proposal is expected to be rejected though as Ajax try to keep hold of the defender this summer.

Juventus are also said to be interested in the Dutch teenager, but they have been priced out of the bidding by the two Premier League clubs.

TMW are not a reliable source so take this with a massive pinch of salt, but it is likely that we would have to break our transfer record if we want to land De Ligt.

The centre-half is in high demand, with the Sun reporting that five other clubs, including City, Juve, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing the player.

  • One things for sure Frank we need to buy some English players as we have too many over seas players in the squad last season. Seems that we are having issues selling these guys so we end up loaning them out instead.

  • Could someone tell me what jack grealish would bring to our team?the only reason I’d bring him to the squad if we’re selling onomha.either way it changes nothing regarding improving the team .liverpool pushing to seal French attacker before World Cup for there 3rd top signing.
