Tottenham Hotspur made the trip back to the Etihad Stadium earlier today to face off once again against Manchester City.
Having taken an aggregate Champions League quarter-final victory over Pep Guardiola’s side recently, in fairness, most fans agreed this game was pretty much a dead rubber and given the emotions on our side, knowing there would be significant rotation to rest players (on top of our current injury list), I think most hoped for simply a draw or a narrow defeat.
We couldn’t manage the draw as an early goal five minutes into the game decided the points as we couldn’t find a leveller, so it was a narrow 1-0 defeat on the day. City did better dominate the game but in terms of true chances, we had the same number of efforts on target, so in some senses the defeat is harsh.
It does of course make the battle at the top of the table slightly more interesting now as we remain in third place on 67 points, but Arsenal have a game in hand and sit one point below us, as do Chelsea.
End the campaign strongly now though as it’s still largely in our hands.
