Christian Eriksen’s agent responds to speculation over uncertain Tottenham future

|

Christian Eriksen agent Martin Schoots has played down talk of the Tottenham midfielder leaving this summer, insisting he’s only focused on playing football. The 27-year-old is out of contract in 2020 and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension. He’s been linked with a move to Real Madrid and there are growing fears Eriksen’s playing his last season for the Londoners.

His representative, however, was keen to quell such speculation and says that Eriksen is committing his immediate future to Tottenham. As per the London Evening Standard, he said: “I don’t want to add to the speculation around Christian’s contract and football future. Christian is only focusing on the football. He has evolved from a world class talent into a world class player.”

Eriksen has made 27 Premier League appearances this season, scoring and creating 14 goals. He’s created 50 chances and averages 51 passes-per-game with 83% accuracy. He’s been a key player under Mauricio Pochettino and will be hard to replace, but Tottenham aren’t making headway on his contract.

Spurs have tied down a number of important personnel in the last 12 months – Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks, Michel Vorm, Erik Lamela, Heung-min Son, Del Alli, Kyle Walker-Peters, Jan Vertonghen – but Eriksen might be the one who got away.

Schoots appears to be using the smokescreen method to address the rumours surrounding his client, but supporters won’t be appeased.
