Spurs Word On The Tweet

“Champion”, “So excited” – Many Spurs fans buzzing after Barca player gives youngster enormous compliment

Lots of Spurs fans have responded on Twitter after Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong described Steven Bergwijn as the toughest opponent he has ever faced.

While taking part in a live video chat with the Barcelona website, De Jong was asked a series of questions, one of which included his toughest opponent – and Spurs fans will be delighted to hear that their January signing was the person he chose.

With the two being rivals for years as one played for Ajax and the other for PSV, they would have faced each other in many competitive encounters before.

It’s some claim to have, especially considering the number of top quality players that De Jong has been playing over the past year.

In fact, over the past season, he has faced Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Robert Lewandowski, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Harry Kane and many more, so there’s no doubt that this will be music to the ears of Spurs fans.

The Netherlands international joined Spurs for £27m in the January window and he has already gone onto make a decent impression.

With Son and Kane injured, Bergwijn was thrown in straight at the deep end, and he was able to grab two goals in his opening five league games for the club, including a cracking volley against City on his debut.

Plenty of Spurs fans loved to hear what De Jong had to say, and many chipped in with their own opinions by responding to @TransSPURS on Twitter after they tweeted about his comments.
