Bryan Gil confirmed as latest Spurs signing as Lamela joins Sevilla

|

The swap deal between Sevilla and Spurs has officially been completed, with Spanish wonderkid Bryan Gil set to arrive in North London after the end of the Olympics, and Argentinean forward Erik Lamela signing for the La Liga club.

Gil, who turned 20 earlier this year, signed the paperwork while in Tokyo while with the rest of the Spanish gold-medal hopefuls, and he joins after Fabio Paratici also paid an extra £21.4 million in order to reach an agreement with Sevilla.

The young forward spent last season on-loan at Eibar, where he helped them to avoid relegation by contributing four goals and setting up a further three in 28 league appearances, with just two coming from the bench.

He has been touted as the ‘little Cruyff’ due to his intimidating direct dribbling, but he has also shown on multiple occasions that his end product is fantastic too – and he was very unlucky to end up with just the three assists in the league as he created plenty of more good chances for his teammates.

Despite his young age, he appears fearless, and learning under the likes of Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura will only improve him and better his chances of reaching his extremely high potential.

Meanwhile, the deal marks the end of Erik Lamela’s eight year Spurs career where he became a fan favourite despite getting anywhere near the heights we were expecting him to – largely because his unfortunate luck with serious injuries.

In 177 Premier League games, Lamela scored just 17 goals – and last season he only managed to contribute one which was his incredible ‘Rabona’ goal in the North London Derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The likes of Serge Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Davinson Sanchez are all set to follow Lamela out of the exit door next, while Gil could be joined by Atalanta’s Cristian Romero and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu – as Paratici remains in advanced negotiations for both players.
